The Nurturing Parenting Programs®
The Nurturing Parenting Programs® are family-based programs with a proven track record of preventing the recurrence of child abuse and neglect. Departments of Social Services, Day Care Facilities, Prevention Programs of Community Services’ Boards, women centers and many other agencies/ organizations committed to helping families and children in their communities have relied upon the Programs as a primary parenting program to promote healthy family life and break the cycle of child maltreatment.
The Nurturing Parenting Programs® are recognized by the National Registry of Effective Programs and Practices (NREPP), the Substance Abuse-Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Dependency Prevention (OJJDP).

Adult-Adolescent Parenting Inventory (AAPI-2)
The AAPI-2 has proven invaluable in assessing the parenting attitudes and child-rearing beliefs of parents and adolescents. Founded on five parenting constructs known to lead to abusive parenting, the AAPI provides scores that profile parents at risk for abusing and neglecting children.

Description:
In the 3 day training, Participants will learn:
* The philosophy, values, goals, structure, and validation of the Nurturing Parenting Program®.
s How the 5 Constructs are taught and understood in the Program, through activities relating to child development & expectations, attachment, personal power, empathy, discipline & alternatives to corporal punishment, expressing feelings & gentle touch, nurturing oneself, self-awareness (incl. parent –child roles) and building self-esteem in parents & children.
s How to Implement group and home based Nurturing Parenting Programs® that includes practice sessions, use of program materials, videos, assessment tools, children’s and parents’ program activities, family home practice assignments, icebreakers.
s Application of the Adult-Adolescent Parenting Inventory (AAPI-2) and Nurturing Skills Competency Scale (NSCS) where
applicable in certain Programs.
During this training, different Nurturing Parenting Program® Curricula will be available for review. The Nurturing God’s Way Parenting Program for Christian Families®, the Nurturing Program for Parents and Their Children with Health Challenges, and Nurturing Father’s Program require separate specialized training. About the Trainer:
Carol Dolber McMurray, MSW, ACSW, is a Nationally Recognized Trainer/ Consultant with the Nurturing Parenting
Programs ®. She is an active member & past coordinator of the Virginia Nurturing Network. She has worked with and on
behalf of children and families for over twenty-five years, particularly in the area of foster family care and adoption.
Carol serves as a Trainer and Adoption/ Life Book Consultant with Child & Family Development Services of Richmond,
Virginia. In her work to strengthen nurturing family life and prevent child maltreatment, she also provides workshops and
seminars on conflict resolution techniques, communication and problem-solving strategies, group and family dynamics.
She is adjunct faculty with Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Social Work VISSTA project.
Carol has conducted Nurturing Parenting Program ® Trainings for over fifteen years, provided workshops on Nurturing
Parenting, facilitated Nurturing Skills groups with adolescents and helped organizations in the implementation of different
Nurturing Parenting Programs®.

It is clean and the staff members are friendly and helpful. Rooms look comfortable and well appointed.

It is more expensive than other area hotels but boasts 100% high thread count cotton sheets, down comforters and flat screen TV’s.

a courtyard (which makes them always visible to staff – nice for travelers particularly concerned with safety). Embassy Suites features an indoor pool, workout room, hot tub and sauna, work station and all bedrooms are situated towards the outside of the hotel to minimize interior hotel noise.
